Imagine a world where childcare workers, children, and families thrive. A childcare center where workers are empowered to provide high-quality childcare. A place where employees share benefits, responsibilities, and governance and work together to create a brighter future for themselves, the city they live in, and the children and families they serve.
What is it
We are excited to announce the development of a cooperative childcare center in downtown Anchorage with plans to open mid-year 2025.
Who we are
Our initiative brings together three community partners. The childcare center will be located at First United Methodist Church. The Mutual Aid Network of Anchorage will engage with the community to recruit prospective and aspiring early childhood professionals interested in joining this cooperative model. First Entrepreneur LLC will train early childhood worker participants on cooperative business practices.
Why are we doing this
By uniting individuals, community organizations, and business partners, our goal is to develop a community-based solution to address the childcare shortage in Anchorage and the specific work-related challenges childcare workers face.
How will we do this
Early childhood educators will receive comprehensive training on operating a cooperative childcare business through a democratic decision-making approach.
What we are looking for
-
We are seeking early childhood workers, or those aspiring, who are interested in this opportunity for cooperative training
-
We are seeking individuals, businesses, and community organizations who would like to contribute to the project
